Overview of the course


Total Duration: 2 years 

Diploma in Medical Laboratory technology is a Two year diploma course pursed after successful completion of 10+2 level of education . Medical care is incomplete without a proper diagnosis of the disease or disorder. It is inevitable to treat any disorder without knowing the cause of the disease and this is possible because of the presence of Laboratory analysis which is done by Laboratory professionals. This  course of medical profession involves advanced professional learning in diagnosis, prevention and  treatment of diseases in patients through clinical laboratory tests. Laboratory technologists are technical staff who assist the laboratory professionals, pathologist, microbiologist or biochemists to help analyze results for treating diseases.


Entry requirements :

Candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with minimum 50 % in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB). A student should complete the age of 17 years and  the upper age limit will be 25 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission of the Program.


Course Objectives
  • The students will be confident to manage the laboratory setup activities from drawing blood , to preparing smear , to perform analysis etc.
  • They will be able to function efficiently and safely in clinical laboratory settings including  hospital environments.
  • The students  gain knowledge regarding ethical handling of social issues associated with laboratory and healthcare.
  • The students will be able to work and communicate effectively in inter-disciplinary environment, either independently or in a team .
  • The students will be skilled to carry out any emergency laboratory care activities.
Course Outcomes

Following successful completion of this course the student will be able to :

  • Carryout routine clinical laboratory procedures under the supervision within acceptable quality control parameters in all the areas.
  • Will be capable of solving problems related to techniques in identification and correction of procedural errors, instrument malfunctions and so on .
  • Will be capable of understanding professional and ethical guidelines in relation to Medical lab technology practices.
  • Understand the impact of laboratory tests in a global and environmental context.
  • The student will be able to communicate effectively by oral, written and graphical means.
  • Recognize the need to engage in lifelong learning through continuing education and research.
